This buyer journey feature was written for Peninsula Sarasota, a luxury condominium community in Sarasota, Florida. It was originally published in February 2025.

Debra and James Doyle had always imagined Florida as part of their future. Living in Baltimore, Maryland, they had visited many times over the years, drawn to the warm weather and vibrant lifestyle. As they planned for retirement, they set out to find a new home that would not only complement their social lifestyle but also offer new experiences to enjoy. Their search ultimately led them to Sarasota, where everything seemed to fall into place. Now, as they prepare to settle into their new Sarasota condo, they reflect on what made this community ideal for their next chapter.
“Sarasota Feels More Like a Town Than a City”
The Doyles knew it was time to trade Maryland’s cold winters for Florida’s warmth and sunshine. Yet, deciding exactly where in Florida to settle took some time. They explored different options across the West Coast, East Coast, and even central Florida. “We looked at a number of places around Florida before settling on Sarasota,” said James. “We loved that while Sarasota is a city, it’s not a big city. With its waterways, it feels more like a town, yet it has everything—cultural events, plays, the symphony, beaches, nightlife, and great restaurants.”
“Golden Gate Point Is Its Own Little Island”

Once they decided on Sarasota, James and Debra already had their sights set on the neighborhood they wanted to call home. Just off Downtown Sarasota, Golden Gate Point is a 22-acre peninsula between Sarasota Bay and the Ringling Bridge. “We always said that if we chose Sarasota, we’d want to live on Golden Gate Point,” shared Debra. “When we used to vacation here, we’d stay downtown and walk over the bridge and around Golden Gate. It’s such a rare community on its own little island. You get so many perspectives and opportunities, all while being within walking distance of downtown. We can enjoy everything we love, yet still retreat to this quiet enclave.”
